RBI Launches app for the Visually Challenged

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced a mobile application called ‘Mobile Aided Note Identifier (MANI) to assist the visually disabled in identifying the currency denominations for their daily transactions.

Indian banknotes hold several features that assist the visually challenged such as intaglio printing and tactile mark, large numerals, variable banknote size, monochromatic hues, and patterns. 

The application is accessible on all smartphones and is downloadable from the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store.

  • This topic got such a huge news coverage, I read tens of articles about it. It is fantastic for awareness. But I still would like to read more about what’s next? What is going to happen with all those blind people who don’t have a smart phone or internet? But I do remain positive, it is a step in the right direction.
