Lebanon - BDL announces new LL100,000 note

A new LL100,000 banknote with a new design will enter circulation from April 10, Lebanon’s central bank said Wednesday.

The new notes were issued on Jan. 1, 2017 and feature a smoother and more minimalistic design that keeps the classic Lebanese symbol of a cedar tree at the top right corner of the note’s front. The tree is outlined by a green circle that appears to spin when the paper is tilted.

On the back side, the note’s serial code appears in both Arabic and Latin letters and numbers.

The new banknotes will complement the existing LL100,000 notes already in circulation and the older bills will still be accepted.

The Central Bank had recently announced the circulation of new LL250 coins without a change in design, the National News Agency reported.
